Raining day traveling

Notice the change in the picture – there was a comment that the original picture was taken in Mexico not the U.S.A – now corrected.
Friday morning it was cloudy and overcast with threat of rain so we got going earlier than usual.
Had a little mishap getting ready to go though. When pulling in the big slide on the driver’s side we sometimes slightly tip the motorhome using the jacks – passenger side lower then drivers side. This helps by using gravity to bring the slide in. Over the slide is a canvas awning to keep debris off the top of the slide. Well…….this awning also collects rain water. Usually not a problem, as the slide come in the water sloughs off the front of the slide. Oops! When the motorhome is tipped the water rolls to the back of the slide. What happens next….well as the slide came in so did the WATER! Suddenly we had a waterfall inside. S**T!!!!! Live and learn. You would think we’d know better. Oh, yes, we do know better. Just weren’t thinking. So now we have a wet carpet and a wet rug. Slowly drying.
We managed to travel about an hour with just cloudy skies. Then the sprinkles and then the rain for the rest of the journey. About 10 miles from the campground we started to have blue skies.

Tolls again were $40 – makes sense – coming and going.
Found the campground with no problems but got a surprise when checking in. We got an earlier start than usual so arrived at the campground about 12:30 – Was CHARGED a $3 EARLY CHECK IN fee. WHAT – the space was already empty. What the heck is the charge for? The rates here are already high at $46 per night. I wish some of these parks had a couple of rates. One for people who are there for their vacation and use all the amenities of the place – cable, pool, lounge etc. And another for people like us who just want the basics. A space with power, water and sewer – just for overnighting. The campground we are at now.

Got settled in and put satellite up. Direct TV works fine. Still can’t get the Internet [using the parks – okay so we do use some of their aminities.] Have talked to Hughes.Net who thinks it might be the router…to check that I’d have to stand on a ladder (the boxes are way up in the upper cupboards) and unplug the cable from the router and plug it into the laptop. Don’t think I’m going to be doing that. Will wait until we get home in a couple of days.
Bill noticed that one of the welds holding the light bar on the front of Willie had broken. He wanted to get it fixed before it juggled so much it broke the remain weld. So we started out on the country roads. Found a couple of garages but they didn’t weld. Light bulb came on – Ask Gypsy. Sure enough she found an Auto Body and Repair place – 4 miles from where we were – Well four miles as the crow flies – 10 miles as the road goes. We followed her directions over hill and dale. Finally came to the place. Three men were standing outside talking – Bill went up to them and asked if they did welding. Yes they did. Could they do it right away? Why right away (by now it was 5:30 on a Friday evening.) Then one guy noticed our Nevada plates. Okay pull it in and we’ll do it. The third guy got into his truck and pulled away.

We pulled into the garage where the man who owned it was getting his welding machine ready. Both gentlemen were very gregarious (checked the thesaurus for a different more descriptive word and one choice was unreserved – that might have been a better choice.) The older white haired man was the owner of the garage. When talking his eyes and hands were very expressive. Both never stopped moving. The younger fellow was just a friend who was there “shooting the s**t” after work on a Friday night. The older man got to work, ground off the old weld and did the new one. He said the people who did it in the first place should have done it different to make it stronger. Bill says he did a really good job. There was a mirror on the wall - a shot from it.

After paying them and pulling away both of us had a good laugh –both guys were sloshed – they had been doing more than talking before we got there. Maybe that explains why they were so “unreserved.”
Just as we left the garage the rain started again, and we had left a couple of windows open in Alfie. Oh well, a little more water shouldn’t make a difference.
Luckily the rain didn’t come in. The day ended well.
